My birthday dinner with Rafa with rice, chicken and ........
Part V
The day I met Rafa in Kathmandu, "our first dinner" we celebrated my birthday. My menu, believe it or not, was .... arroz con pollo and ......... or rather, "rice with a chicken bone", if you look at the photo. I had brought edible gold sheets from Myanmar for the occasion ...... hahaha I couldn't believe it .... so, it was rice with chicken and GOLD hahaha, it can't be more contradictory, the most common food with the most precious metal hahaha
A few days before at the hostel in Kathmandu, while I was waiting for Rafa, I saw an older woman, about my age or a little older, beautiful, and dressed in the way I dream of, hippie styled and refined, her hair was tied in two types of bows with different elastics. We had already crossed paths a few times and we had exchanged brief greetings. The first thing I thought was, "I'm not the only crazy old half hippie staying in hostels and travelling alone ........." IT WAS ALMOST A RELIEF hahaha I had to tell my children that I am not the only one ... ...so I took this first photo from the terrace, a whole photoshoot, I did not dare to ask for one, but I needed the proof that I was not the only one .................. ........ for my children ........... hahaha
I went downstairs one morning with my coffee in hand and she was sitting down having her breakfast, I gestured to her asking if I could have my coffee with her and she answered me immediately, with a big welcoming smile. From then on, we became friends, she was pure joy, her name is Patricia, from Canada. We agreed to eat together that night where she always went to eat................ !! ......... until then .... ........... !! .............. In the restaurant, they adored her, (who doesn't?) We talked with the waiters and the owner until late at night .... after the restaurant had closed ...... ....... we definitely had many things in common....... She has lived in many countries, speaks 6 languages, her Spanish is fantastic and it brought us that much closer. One of the best jokes with her was when I asked her where she had learned Spanish ...... She tells me that she learned to speak Spanish in ........ Brazil ............. We both laughed when she realised what she said .................. she had lived in Brazil at one stage ........ another joke that made us laugh a lot; was when it came up in the conversation that she has a thousand dresses in her closet (and half in her suitcase, she changed 3 times a day) and I told her that I only have two dresses ........... ..........LOL
She is the most pretentious woman I have ever met ... hahaha ... happy, detached, cultured, brave she is the first to laugh at herself, Patricia, was a hippie in her youth and is still a HIPPIE now, very chic though I imagine that in the 60s she was in her element although she hasn’t changed since then. She was not a tourist, but was buying clothes for her shop. I was not surprised by the name Hippie Chic "she has been doing this for many years and has travelled across Asia buying clothes ......... this was the reason for the thousand dresses ... hahaha ...
I put her photo in here. It is rare for me, to put photos of those I get to know on the blog. Because I don’t want to put all of my encounters in, it would take too long ... but she deserves it for being extraordinary in every sense of the word. I told her that Rafa was coming and that we would celebrate my birthday she told me it would be her birthday in two days, with pure logic ...... we agreed to celebrate our birthdays together .... a birthday combo .......
After my dinner alone with Rafa, it was the first time we had seen each other in 7 months we had a lot to talk about and catch up on, we ate our dinner with the gold trimming, and then we went to the restaurant the following night to meet Patricia.
And there, what a way to have a blast, Rafa was amazed at the ease in which I made friends and I was in my element. At the restaurant, we were spoiled with almost everything for free, their food, our mini cakes and the "drinks" .... which were not few. The owner had lived in the US and was gifted with the guitar, ah .... there we spent the night humming to tunes by "Guantalamera" and the best blues music ....... Here is what surprised me the most, she was 71 years old!!!! PLOP!!!! ....... 71 and has the energy of a youngster........ Will I get to 71 like this? I doubt I will have her energy and will I still be a Nomad like she is ......... that's why she deserves this chapter dedicated to her,
and this was how we ended up walking arm in arm, like old drinking partners through the already empty streets of Kathmandu.
Patricia, I have the most wonderful memories of us together, I am hoping that we will meet again.
